Behind the story

A few months back I wrote a piece for a magazine. I titled it Forked Tounge.

This piece was fun to write, a big step in exploring my writing style and adding my beloved dark prose into the structure.

You see I am poetic a heart, but I have a habit of breaking the rules and being too vague.

So without further ado, I will tell you the story behind the story.

"Trapped inside my mind, able to see everything that happened around me, unable to move or prevent the oncoming slaughter that this inevitably becomes."

Jumping straight in with this quote, trapped inside my mind; is something I feel every time I experience my sleep paralysis. It sucked.

Your body is trapped in a state of paralysis where your mind is awake but your body is asleep. You can make yourself attune to this and force yourself into this situation. Only once did I do it on purpose. Never again.

For my story I reimagined a few times I felt it as a child and created it in a way that would creep out the biggest badass out there.

This is a true story, I really see these things and yes I'm not ashamed to admit I wet myself as a child, possibly a teen too. who wouldn't see those things?

I learn from my experiences and learnt how to stay calm and control how I felt when it was happening, knowing it was my overactive imagination creating the monsters.

"I lay there curled into myself as the tears stopped. There was no use looking for the demon. It only appeared when I’m trapped inside a prison of my physical state of mind. It would be back, the night isn’t over and I’d succumb, eventually."

For a long time as a child, I cried myself to sleep fearing this would happen, the monster would come for me and sit on me it always did.

I only learnt what it was when I was a teen and by that point, I had started imagining it was my fat ginger cat sitting on me, it gave me comfort.

I asked people what they thought my story was about and I received some interesting theories. from a child being trapped in an abusive household and the demon was a metaphor. To a simple child's nightmare.

All reviews and support were wonderful and I thank them all!

I dare you to read the story and think of your own theories... comment them below, ill be waiting...
